SPEAK FOR YOURSELF!

A new quarter has begun, and Mrs. Thoma is looking at 18 new, scared faces.  The class will  begin by defining communication.  Numerous assignments are distributed before their first speech.

The second speech category will be demonstration.  Students are required to research more than a 10 step procedure.  Students are also required to provide, "DID YOU KNOW?" facts about details from their speech.  This class is preparing for the demonstration speech right now.  The big event will be Monday,  October 24, 2011.  Did I mentioned they will be videotaped?  We will use that as an assessment tool.

The purpose of this class is to introduce students  to all genres of communication.  Communication includes written and spoken words, symbols, movements, gestures, facial expressions, the tone of the voice, and anything else that can transfer meaning.

All of us communicate constantly.  Even as you are reading this, communication is occurring.  We often take communication for granted, but communication skills are vitally important to survival.  We communicate so often that we are seldom aware of the actual process, but we can study, practice, and improve our communication skills.  We can all continue to learn to communicate more effectively, and learn how to SPEAK FOR OURSELVES!
