I have been working in the Richfield School District since 1987. I taught fourth grade for three years and then I was asked to move up to the middle school. I"ve been in room 109 ever since and wouldn't change it for anything.
I have a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction plus a minor in Psychology. I coached volleyball for 8 seasons as the Red Team ( more competitive) coach. We won 7 of the 8 league championships during those years.
I've also coached basketball since 1993. I quit counting, but I had over 219 wins, and 20-some losses in my coaching career. I retired three years ago, as my daughter Carrie earned a scholarship to Upper Iowa University to play basketball. ( Yes, kids, GOOD GRADES COUNT! Don't just rely on your athletic abilities.) So I travel quite a bit to see her play. This school year Carrie transferred to Wisconsin Lutheran College. She is majoring in Physical Therapy.
My oldest, my son Philip also, earned a college scholarship. He continued with his passion also, focusing on his career as an auto technician. Phil is gifted: he can work on imports, motorcycles, or Mitsubishi trucks. You name it, he can fix it. Most recently, he fixed my washing machine. Phil is currently working at Richfield Service, Inc. He is the third generation of Thoma's, first borns in fact, to work there.
BOTH OF MY CHILDREN WERE RICHFIELD SCHOOL GRADUATES!!! YES, I TAUGHT THEM IN MY ENGLISH CLASSES..LOL
Jordan is my other child. She is part black lab and great dane. She is my baby. Everyday I try to hurry home to her after work. My children say I spoil her, pfff.
