Basics of Magix Movie Editing
To start go to the read only files and click on the magix folder.
Three uses for Movie Magix in the classroom are:
1. Create video from scratch
2. Make a video with a song
3. Create own dialogue for a discovery education video
Part 1: Create a video from scratch
Step 1 One of the most important rules to follow when using Magix Movie is to save all files in one folder. We will be breaking that rule today because we will not be saving the videos. But for good practice we will create a folder together. USE VIDEO A – at the end of the step there are only two OK’s to click on.
Step 2 – Go to edit mode in Magix. Top right of screen click edit. WATCH VIDEO B
In Editing mode there are three views used for editing: the main view, scene overview, and timeline view. WATCH VIDEO C
Step 3- Importing pictures or videos into your movie. WATCH VIDEO 1. Then import about ten pictures from the Readonly file called “Movie Sample”. You can use the Movie Sample Folder for most of the activities below.
STEP 4- Rearranging your pictures and videos order. WATCH VIDEO 2. This is the best way to move pictures around in the order you like.
Step 5- Adding transitions to your pictures. WATCH VIDEO 6. Add several transitions so you learn how to use the program.
Step 6- Adding text. WATCH VIDEO 4. Add text to a video to learn the program. Try different thing besides what is shown on the video.
Step 7- Effects using Zoom. WATCH VIDEO 7. Try this effect and then play around with two more effects on different pictures.
Step 8- Changing the duration of a picture. Watch Video 13. Now change the duration of at least one picture.
PART ONE IS DONE. CREATING A VIDEO FROM SCRATCH. You will learn more about movie editing in the next parts. You can use the same movie for the next two parts.
PART 2: Create own dialogue for a discovery education video
Take out the audio from a video by discovery education and have students place their own audio track.
Step 1- Download a video from discovery education and save it to the folder you created earlier. If you want to find one yourself go ahead, otherwise use “Thanksgiving.asf” already in the Movie Sample folder.
Step 2- Import into the movie track as shown in previous steps.
Step 3- Remove audio from the track. Watch Video 10 and 9 shows how to cut video.
Step 4-Place your own audio into the track. Watch Video 5
PART 3: Make a video with a song. In your class you could find a song and make the students find pictures to show they understand the meaning of the song.
Step 1- Import the audio you would like to use into your movie. We will use the “Turkeysong” file found in Movie Sample Folder. Watch Video 3.
Step 2- In timeline mode drag the music file to line TWO. WATCH VIDEO 14 for step two and three.
Step 3- Listen to the file by pressing play.
Step 4- Find four pictures on the internet and save the pictures into the folder you create for our movie sample. These pictures should be pictures that will go with the words of the song.
Step 5- Insert pictures into the movie. This was shown earlier.
Step 6- In timeline mode you can match the pictures with the words. Demonstrated in VIDEO 15
FINALIZE THE VIDEO-
There are several ways to make the video usable for class. The easiest and student friendly way is to convert the video to a Window Media Player Video. Watch VIDEO 11
You could also burn as a DVD or CD if you are at a computer with a burner. This is not the easiest for children projects.
