Where do you want your child to be in a few years?
JOURNALS
On Mondays, all 8th graders hand in their journals. I go over them to make sure they are continuing to read and write in them. Each Monday students have a possibility of ten points for handing in their journal(most receive 10/10 every week). This is 10 percent of their grade. Every few weeks I also estimate if they are going to make the goal of 1,400 pages a quarter, and put in a participation grade, which is worth 40 percent of their grade. This is to help students stay on track and not to think they can read 600 pages the weekend before the end of the quarter.
