Sixth Grade English Class
6th graders will work on the 8 Parts of Speech, and various grammar topics. We'll also have the chance to write our own books. There will be a unit on creative writing including poetry, as well as a song-writing unit. Also very important this year is the work we'll do on becoming better paragraph and essay writers.

Descriptive Essay -
Descriptive Essay Grading Rubric - Use this rubric to assess your own writing. Then, have a family member assess it as well, using the same rubric. This is due WITH the final, typed copy of your essay. Due date will be announced later.

Newspaper Article
Newspaper Article Requirements and Scoring Sheet - This writing assignment has a couple goals. The first major goal is to write using great verbs. Students are encouraged to replace simple verbs like "walked" or "thought" with words like "meandered" or "pondered." The second major goal of this assignment is to write in detail about an event they've experienced from the perspective of a newspaper journalist conducting an interview.
The rough draft was due in class on Wednesday the 26th.
The final must be done, proofread, and printed out for next Wednesday the 2nd of November.

King Tut Outline - This is the outline sheet that was handed out in class. It should be completed before starting the rough draft.
King Tut essay grading rubric - Here is the sheet that will be used to score this essay. It shows exactly what the requirements of the assignment are.
Tut essay schedule and due dates:
Fri 11th - intro thesis statement, transitions, and 1 idea per paragraph, discuss the outline and requirements
Mon 14th - review requirements, practice thesis statement and transitions, work time
Tue 15th - handwritten outline and rough draft are due. Going to c-lab to take an ADVERB QUIZ, and begin typing the Tut essay
Wed 16th- entire to type in c-lab
Thur 17th - a printed rough draft is due in class. Just print out whatever you have typed so far.
Fri 18th - Final day to type in c-lab
Mon 21st - ADV and V TEST
Tue 22nd - Final Tut essays due
Wed 23rd - Reward trip to Pioneer in afternoon.
