We are now beginning Chapter 6: Immigrants, Growth, and Statehood.  After studying this chapter, the students will be able to:

  • Explain some reasons why immigrants came to America
  • Explain how immigrants contributed to the growth of cities and industries
  • List some of the problems immigrants encountered in their new American life
  • Analyze the term "melting pot" as it pertains to Wisconsin and America
  • Explain how Wisconsin became a state
  • Describe what industrialization means
  • Explain why canals, steamboats, and railroads were important

*The students will be doing a Heritage Project and will need a large poster board brought to school.  This will be the last Social Studies project of the year.  Please expect handouts to be coming home with information on the project.
