Unit 9:Fractions

Unit 9 builds upon concepts of fractions.  The activities in this unit helps gain a conceptual and practical understanding of the parts of fractions, relationships among fractions, and operations with fractions.  Students are expected to apply their understanding of fractions to numeric calculations and real-world problem-solving situations.  This includes comparisons with fractions, unit-pricing problems, and probability problems.

By the end of Unit 9, the students will be able to:

  • Compare and order fractions
  • Write equivalent fractions
  • Convert and use improper fractions and mixed numbers
  • Add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers with like and unlike denominators
  • Multiply fractions and whole numbers
  • Interpret information in a circle graph
  • Solve word problems with multiplication comparisons
  • Express probabilities as fractions

  •     TEST DATE: TBD

It is very important that the students know their multiplication facts so please quiz them every night.  Here are some fun times to quiz your child:

  • Driving to soccer practice, CCD, piano lessons, or the store
  • While they help you make dinner or set the table
  • As they clean up the family room or kitchen
