Unit 9:Fractions
Unit 9 builds upon concepts of fractions. The activities in this unit helps gain a conceptual and practical understanding of the parts of fractions, relationships among fractions, and operations with fractions. Students are expected to apply their understanding of fractions to numeric calculations and real-world problem-solving situations. This includes comparisons with fractions, unit-pricing problems, and probability problems.
By the end of Unit 9, the students will be able to:
- Compare and order fractions
- Write equivalent fractions
- Convert and use improper fractions and mixed numbers
- Add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers with like and unlike denominators
- Multiply fractions and whole numbers
- Interpret information in a circle graph
- Solve word problems with multiplication comparisons
- Express probabilities as fractions
