Welcome to First Grade!
First grade is a very exciting class. The children are introduced to many skills that they will use the rest of their lives! In first grade we learn to read, write stories, add, subtract, count money, and tell time. We learn about weather, bats, Pilgrims, winter holidays around the world, the desert, the Arctic, Antarctica, penguins, and the rain forest. We tap a maple tree and learn about simple machines, magnets, maps, balancing and weighing, organisms, and sound along with many other science things. It is a very busy, fun filled year!

This is my 21st year at Plat School, the last 20 teaching first grade. Many years ago I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a teaching degree certifying me to teach early childhood through third grade. Before coming to the Richfield district, I taught 4 year olds at a private school in Menomonee Falls for 18 years. Throughout the years I have taken many graduate courses to remain current in the changing world of teaching.
I am married and have two grown children and four grandchildren. I also have a dog named A.J. I enjoy hiking, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, gardening, and baking when I am not teaching. My husband and I enjoy traveling. Our recent travels have taken us to St. Croix-V.I., Canada, San Francisco, India, Mexico, Niagara Falls, Vermont, New Hampshire,Wyoming, and New York City. On many weekends you will find us at our family cabin in Elcho, WI. I have lived in the Richfield area for 35 years and am lucky to live only about a mile from Plat School.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have.
