Vocal Music -- Emily Gerst

Welcome to the music program at the Richfield School District!
I extend my sincerest thanks for your interest in and support of our program, which is designed to offer a wide variety of music experiences to each of our students, 5K-8th grade.

  • Students in our general music classes experience fun, challenging activities in singing, movement, playing, listening, creating, and analyzing music of varied musical styles. Students also make strong connections to other areas of learning and exercise their literacy skills in the music classroom.
  • Students who elect to participate in the Middle School Chorus further their study of music by focusing in on their vocal skills through large group and sectional rehearsals. Together, we study, practice, and perform music of many origins and styles while enhancing our performance skills in an academic and social setting.
  • Our district is lucky to have a quality instrumental program (offered to 4th-8th grades) in addition to the music services I provide. Please check out Mr. James Matheson's webpage for more information about the Richfield Bands.

There are endless roles that music may play in a person’s life, and there is a special role out there for each student I encounter in my music classroom. As the Richfield School District's general/vocal music teacher, it is my duty to help our students discover the function music will play for them. By fostering curious minds, exposing diverse quality musical experiences, maintaining an enjoyable learning environment, and creating lasting memories, I help guide our students through this exploration.

Emily GerstSince 2010, I have been the general/vocal music teacher for the Richfield School District. I teach all general music classes (which our district offers to 5K-6th grades) in addition to directing the Richfield Middle School Chorus, an exciting elective course for our 6-8th grade students. I received my undergraduate degree in music from Carroll College, with concentrated studies in pipe organ and piano performance, choral conducting, and music theory. I returned to school and completed my post-Baccalaureate music teaching certification through a graduate program at Cardinal Stritch University. In addition to teaching music in our schools, I manage my private piano studio, working with students as young as four-years-old through retired adults. I am absolutely delighted to be sharing my knowledge and passion for music with the students, families, and community members of Richfield! Looking forward to creating many more musical memories with all of you!
